11.10.2026 · 18:30Yaşar Kenan Şeftalicioğlu provides his analysis
At Anfield, the match’s goal balance brings two different stories into opposition. In Liverpool’s last 5 overall matches, scoring 7 goals and conceding 4 means averages of 1.4 scored, 0.8 conceded and 2.2 total goals per match. In 80 percent of these matches, there were 1 or more goals; 2 or more in 60 percent, 3 or more in 40 percent, and 4 or more in 40 percent; 5 or more goals were never seen. In the last 2 home matches, Liverpool scored and conceded 2 goals each, with averages of 1 and 1 and a total-goals average of 2. In this section, each of the 1, 2, 3 and 4 or more goal thresholds stands at 50%, while 5 or more goals stands at 0%. Manchester City, meanwhile, scored 13 goals and conceded 5 in their last 5 overall matches; averages of 2.6 goals scored, 1 conceded and 3.6 total goals point to a highly active attack. 1 or more goals occurred in 100% of matches, 2 and 3 or more in 60%, 4 or more in 40%, and 5 or more in 40%. In City’s last 2 away matches, scoring 5 and conceding 1 goals points to averages of 2.5 and 0.5, with 3 total goals; 1 or more occurred in 100% of matches, while every threshold from 2 to 5 or more goals stood at 50%.
City are more aggressive in terms of tempo after the opening whistle: in their overall matches, they scored 1 or more first-half goals in 80 percent, 2 or more in 20 percent, 3, 4 and 5 or more in 20 percent; they scored 5 goals in the first half and 8 in the second. Away from home, these figures are 50 percent for 1 or more and 0 percent for 2 or more; they scored 1 goals in the first half and 4 in the second. Liverpool’s overall first-half thresholds are 1 or more at 60% and 2 or more at 20%; they have 2 goals in the first half and 5 in the second. At home, the first-half figure is 1 or more in 50% of matches, 2 or more in 0%, while goals scored stand at 0 in the first half and 2 in the second half. Liverpool’s goals generally came in the 0-15 period with 2, the 45-60 period with 3, and the 75-90+ period with 2; City recorded 3 in 15-30, 4 in 45-60, and 4 in 75-90+. Among goals conceded, Liverpool have conceded once in each of the 0-15, 15-30, 45-60 and 60-75 intervals; City have conceded once in each of 0-15, 15-30 and 30-45+, and twice in 45-60. In the teams’ recent matches, both teams scored in 50 percent, there were 2 or more goals in 60 percent, 3 or more in 50 percent, 4 or more in 40 percent, and 5 or more in 20 percent; 1 or more first-half goals occurred in 70 percent. In their last 5 meetings, the average was 2.8 goals per match, 3 matches had 2.5 or more goals, and both teams scored in only 1 matches. I think the decisive point will be Liverpool’s resilience in the second half and City’s output, especially in the 45-60 and 75-90+ ranges.

The corner outlook for the Liverpool-Manchester City match points to a clash between the teams’ contrasting profiles from their last few matches. Overall, Liverpool take 4 corners per match, allow 4.4 to their opponents and have a total average of 8.4. In the last two matches at Anfield, their corner average was again 4, opponents’ corners 6.5 and the total average 10.5; in other words, the home team is under more pressure here. In Liverpool’s overall matches, 8 or more corners occurred in 60% of games, while each of the 9 or more, 10 or more, 11 or more and 12 or more thresholds stood at 20%. At home, 8 or more occurred in 100 percent of matches, while the other four thresholds were at 50 percent. Manchester City produce 6.2 corners and allow 4.2 overall, for a total of 10.4; away from home, they take 6.5 corners and allow 4, for a total average of 10.5. In City’s last two away matches, 8 or more corners occurred in 100 percent of matches, while each of the 9, 10, 11 and 12-or-more thresholds stood at 50 percent. As a team, they reached 3 or more corners in 100 percent of matches, 4 or more in 100 percent, 5 or more in 100 percent, and 6 or more in 100 percent; 7 or more came in 50 percent.
The corner balance clearly favors Manchester City: in the last five overall matches, they had 31 to 21, meaning they took more corners than their opponents in four matches; Liverpool produced 20 and allowed 22, having more corners than their opponent in only one match. Across Liverpool’s two home matches, the balance is 8 to 13; in City’s away matches, it is 13 to 8. When the teams’ recent matches are combined, the expected total is 9.4 corners; Liverpool lead the distribution with 4.1, ahead of City’s 5.3. In the combined table, 9 or more corners occurred in 50% of matches, 10 or more in 40%, and 11 or more in 40%; the highest totals for both teams are 13, while Liverpool’s lowest is 6 and City’s is 8. The combined first-half average is 5.1; for Liverpool, it is 5.2 in the first half and 3.2 in the second, while City’s figures are 5 and 5.4. Therefore, the key to the match lies in how City’s wing play and sustained positional attacks respond to the corner pressure Liverpool put on opponents at home. Selection strength and the tempo in the early stages could determine the direction of the total corners.

In the meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City, I pay attention not only to the battle for the ball but also to the interventions after possession is lost. In the last 5 matches, Liverpool averaged 2.4 cards and their opponents 2; the total of 4.4 cards makes for a more eventful average than City’s 1.6 and their opponents’ 1.4, which combine for 3. The share of matches with 3 or more cards is 80% for both sides; with 4 or more cards, Liverpool are at 60% and City at 20%. For 5 or more cards, the figures are 40% versus 20%; for 6 or more, 40% versus 0%; and for 7 or more, 20% versus 0%; the separation becomes clearer as the number of cards rises. Liverpool’s highest overall figure is 8, compared with 5 for City; both teams’ lowest is 1. For the teams’ own cards, the 1, 2, 3 and 4-or-more thresholds are respectively 80%, 80%, 60% and 20% for Liverpool; for City, they are 80%, 40%, 20% and 20%. Frankly, Liverpool accumulating cards more frequently stands out to me. However, in the last 2 home matches, Liverpool averaged 2 cards and their opponents 1.5, bringing the total to 3.5 and softening the picture. In City’s last 2 away matches, their own average was 3, their opponents’ was 1, and the total was 4. In these small samples, both sides had 5 or more cards in 50% of matches; the highest totals are 6 for Liverpool and 5 for City. At home, all of Liverpool’s own card thresholds of 1, 2, 3 and 4 or more stand at 50%; away from home, City’s first two thresholds are 100%, and the others are 50%.
Since the referee’s recent matches have not been provided, I cannot assess how strict the officiating will be; I think it is worth watching how the referee approaches the first challenges. In Liverpool’s last 5 matches, there were 12 yellow and 0 red cards; City recorded 6 yellow and 1 red cards. In City’s away matches, 4 yellow and 1 red cards have also been recorded. Across 10 combined matches, the expected total is 3.7; Liverpool’s share is 1.9 and City’s is 1.8. In this pool, 4 or more cards were recorded in 4 matches at 40%, 5 or more in 3 matches at 30%, and 6 or more in 2 matches at 20%; a red card was shown in 1 matches at 10%. The expected first-half figure of 1.2, together with the two teams’ relevant second-half home/away averages reaching 3, draws my attention to the later stages of the match. Still, these are just the last few matches: what may prove decisive is the timing of interventions under pressure and the players’ ability to control their protests.

11.10.2026 · 18:30Yaşar Kenan Şeftalicioğlu provides his analysis
In the meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City, I first look at where play was stopped, then at how it was rebuilt. Over the last five matches, Liverpool’s average free kicks taken is 12.8, compared with 15.6 for their opponents; for City, the figures are 16.2 and 12.2. It is interesting that the total average in both teams’ matches is 28.4, but the side benefiting from the officiating is not the same. There were 25 or more total free kicks in Liverpool matches at 80% and in City matches at 60%; the percentages for the teams’ own 16 or more free kicks were 20% and 40%. I think it is important here to watch how City restart play after set pieces. For goal kicks, Liverpool average 8.2 and their opponents 9.6, while City average 7.2 and their opponents 7.8; the totals are 17.8 and 15. The percentage of matches with 17 or more total goal kicks is 80% for Liverpool and 20% for City; for both teams, the percentage of their own goal kicks reaching 6 or more is 60%. The difference is clearer with throw-ins: Liverpool’s 18.2 and their opponents’ 24.2 averages bring the total to 42.4, while City’s 15.8 and their opponents’ 12.4 average a total of 28.2. There were 39 or more total throw-ins in Liverpool matches at 60% and in City matches at 0%; 20 or more by an individual team occurred at 60% and 20%, respectively. Frankly, the battle along the touchline could change the rhythm of this matchup.
When I separate home and away data, I see a different picture: in Liverpool’s two home matches, the average free kicks are 9.5 for them, 13 for their opponents and 22.5 overall; in City’s two away matches, the figures are 16.5, 11 and 27.5. For goal kicks, Liverpool took 5.5 at home while their opponents reached 12, making 17.5 in total; away from home, City had 10, their opponents 4.5 and the total was 14.5. This tells me that a goal kick should be read not only as an indicator of pressure, but also of how attacks have ended. The total number of throw-ins being 47.5 at Liverpool’s home and 30.5 in City’s away matches also makes the wide play especially worth watching. The combined expectation is 12.5 free kicks for Liverpool, 15.9 for City and 28.4 overall; for goal kicks, the figures are 8 and 8.4, for a total of 16.4. For throw-ins, Liverpool are expected to have 15.3, City 20, and the total is 35.3. In this context, I pay attention to the tempo of renewed starts; still, these are traces from the last few matches, not conclusions that determine the flow of the game on their own.
